A stroke occurs when brain blood vessels become blocked (ischemia) or when the blood vessel walls become weak and break open (hemorrhage). This causes reduced blood flow to the brain, which injures cells and leads to motor, sensory, and cognitive impairments. Our research uses rodent models to better understand stroke and related vascular diseases in order to find promising therapeutic targets.
